Report Your Points

Each week of the Challenge, we will be highlighting a different Sustainability theme and offering points for participating in pledges, or actions, around that theme.

Up to 100 points will be awarded for taking and verifying the Weekly Sustainability Pledges.

Check back at the beginning of each week to see the latest pledges!

Weekly Sustainability Themes

​

February 4-15: Sign-up

​

February 18-22: Save Energy and School and Home

​

  • Pledge #1: Switch your lights to LED

  • Pledge #2: Get rid of your vampire loads

  • Pledge #3: Conduct a DIY at-home energy audit

​

February 25- March 1: Waste

​

  • Pledge #1: Be prepared and avoid trash: Swap out your plastics for reusable bags, tupperware, utensils and bottles.

  • Pledge #2: Go paperless for your next class or meeting: take notes electronically.

  • Pledge #3:  Declutter your life (think Marie Kondo style)
    ​Go through your belongings and see if there’s anything you don’t need. Ask yourself a series of questions.

    • Do I need this?

    • Have I used this within the last month?

    • Could someone else use this more than me?

    • Could I borrow this from a friend or family member - do I need to own it?

March 4-8: Gardening

​

  • Pledge #1: Research native plants in Southern California and see if you can identify the ones that we have on campus at LACC.

  • Pledge #2: Visit one of the many botanical gardens in Los Angeles: Descanso Gardens in La Canada, Huntington Gardens in Pasadena, the L.A. Botanical Garden, or the L.A. River Center and Gardens to name a few.

  • Pledge #3: Sign up to join the community garden club on LACC's campus!

March 11-15: Renewable Energy

​​

  • Pledge #1: Find and take pictures of all three solar panel installations on LACC's campus.

  • Pledge #2: Come learn about Community Solar with a special guest speaker from Grid Alternatives on Thursday, March 14th in the Student Union!

​

March 18-22: Water

​

  • Pledge #1: Install low-flow shower heads and aerators on your faucets -- you can get these for free from LADWP! 

  • Pledge #2: Check the cleaning products that you use at home for environmentally friendly labels. 

  • Pledge #3: Use the Home Water Audit to identify more water saving opportunities!
     

March 25-29: Campus as a Living Lab

​

  • Pledge #1: Tune in to the Campus as a Living Lab Webinar on Thursday, March 28 at 9am

 

April 1-5: Spring Break

​

April 8-12: Nutrition/ Food Consciousness

​

  • Pledge #1: Watch one of these documentaries available on Netflix: "Cowspiracy," "What the Health," or "In Defense of Food."  Tell us what you learned on the Report Points Form.

  • Pledge #2: Go meatless at your next event or gathering.  Share your creative veg or vegan recipes with us!

​

April 15-19: Recycling

​

  • Pledge #1: Take all of your used batteries to a recycling facility or a local hardware store that recycles batteries.

  • Pledge #2: Say NO to the straw in your drink and the plastic bag at the store.

  • Pledge #3: Upcycle something you would normally toss and show us its new life on the Report Points Form.

April 22-26: Climate Change

​

  • Pledge #1:  Take the Carbon Footprint Calculator and report your score. 

  • Pledge #2: Watch an episode of Our Planet (ft. Sir David Attenborough) on Netflix.  Describe what you learned about the impact of global warming on our ecosystem using the Report Points Form.

April 29- May 3: Transportation

​

  • Pledge #1: Go car-less for a week!  Take the metro, bicycle, scooter, or walk to class instead.​

  • Pledge #2: Set up a carpool with one or more classmates or coworkers. â€‹

​

​

Did you attend an Energy Blitz or affiliated event, volunteer, or take action for sustainability on campus or at home?  Make sure to document your activity with a photo of the event or with a few sentences of description.  We will review your submission and award points to you and your Green Team!

​

Please submit ONE form per activity.

​

If multiple people participated in an activity, you can each submit for points! 

​

Attendance to a community event related to energy or sustainability: 25-50 Points

Take a weekly pledge: 25 Points

Verification of weekly pledge: 75 Points

Create your own sustainability activity: 25+ Points
